Welcome to your first experience of Sahaja Yoga meditation. In just about 8 minutes, we will guide you to a state of peace and joy. The process is simple, and you can follow along at your own pace.
- Preparing for the Meditation
First, sit comfortably either on a chair or on the floor with your hands open on your lap. If you’re wearing glasses, you can take them off. The Mother Kundalini—your inner energy—resides in the triangular bone at the base of your spine. All you need to awaken this energy is a sincere desire to grow spiritually. By the end of this meditation, you’ll feel more peaceful and joyful.
In Sahaja Yoga, our desire flows along the left side of the body. We will guide this flow by placing the right hand on various points of the left side to improve the energy channel. As we move through these points, we will use affirmations to enhance the energy flow at each chakra (energy center).
- Positioning Your Hands
- Place your right hand on the left side of your chest and your left hand open on your lap.
- Move the right hand to the upper left abdomen, then down to the left hip.
- Bring your hand back to the upper left abdomen and then return it to the heart.
- Move your hand to the left side of your neck and shoulder, then place it on your forehead, followed by the back of your head.
- Finally, stretch your hand out and place the palm on the top of your head.
Don’t worry about remembering all the steps right now—I will guide you through each one during the meditation.
- Starting the Meditation
- Sit comfortably with your back straight, and take a deep breath in and out. Close your eyes and focus inward.
- Place your right hand on your heart and ask yourself, “Who am I?” or “Am I connected with my true self?” Allow yourself to express this desire without overthinking.
- Awakening the Kundalini
- Move your right hand to the upper left abdomen and ask, “Am I my own teacher?”
- Move your hand to the lower left abdomen, near the hip, and say, “May I receive pure knowledge?”
As your Kundalini begins to rise, it will work its way upward like a gentle, cool flame along your spine.
- Deepening Your Awareness
- Return your hand to the upper left abdomen and acknowledge, “I am my own teacher. I am my own master.”
- Place your hand on your heart and affirm, “I am more than my physical body. I am my spirit.”
- Move your right hand to the left side of your neck and shoulder, turning your head slightly to the right. Here, say to yourself, “I am free of guilt.”
- Letting Go
- Place your hand across your forehead and lean into it gently. Say, “I forgive everyone, including myself.” Don’t focus on specific people—just let go of any residual anger or resentment.
- Move your hand to the back of your head and say, “Please forgive me.” This simple act helps release guilt and past mistakes.

- Finally, place your right hand on top of your head, fingers spread wide. With sincerity, say, “Please give me my self-realization. Let me experience a deep state of meditation.”
At this point, the Kundalini will rise to the crown of your head, connecting you with the all-pervading energy of the universe. This union is known as Self-Realization, where you achieve a higher state of consciousness and peace.
Grounding Meditation: Connecting with the Earth
For this meditation, choose a quiet space where you feel relaxed. You can sit on the floor or on a chair, whichever is more comfortable. Remove your shoes and place your hands on your lap with palms facing upward.
- Breathing to Calm the Mind
Start by focusing on your breath. Take deep breaths through your nose, hold briefly, and then exhale slowly. As your breathing becomes steadier, feel your inner self becoming quieter.
- Connecting with the Earth
- If you’re sitting on the floor, place both hands on the ground. If you’re in a chair, direct your palms downward toward the earth.
- Visualize the earth gently absorbing your stress, worries, and overactivity. With every exhale, feel the earth pulling away your tensions.
- Raising Your Inner Energy
- Place your right hand in front of your spine, near the base of your back, with your palm facing upwards.
- Slowly raise your hand along your spine, visualizing your energy rising from one chakra to the next. Ask your inner energy to rise and bring you into balance.
Repeat this process two more times, moving your hand along the spine.
- Achieving Stillness
- Place your hand on top of your head, pressing down gently on your scalp while rotating your hand clockwise. Focus your attention on this spot as you take a few deep breaths.
- Now raise your hand a few centimeters above your head. Observe whether you can feel a cool breeze, warmth, or tingling sensation.
Don’t worry if you don’t feel anything right away. It will come with practice.
- Entering a Silent State
- After placing your hands back on your lap, take a moment to observe your inner state. Do you feel calmer, more silent, and at peace?
- Place your right hand on your heart, the home of your spirit. Ask, “Please allow me to feel my true self.”
As you exhale, feel your heart softening and your mind becoming more still.
- Clearing the Mind
- Move your hand across your forehead and ask for peace in your mind. Let go of any lingering thoughts or worries, and if you catch yourself thinking, simply say, “Not now” or “I forgive.”
